It looks quite a bit like a front suspension turned around, it even has tierods. So, take two of these, put the Cobra LSD's in them. Get !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and the rest of the body parts,

Kinja'd!!!

Put one of the Lincoln suspension units in the back and put the other at the front. Remove the tierods on the front and replace them with a rack and pinion. Use adjustable coilovers at each corner. Put !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! where the back seat normally goes:

Hook it up to a transfer box set to allow a 30/70 power distribution. Make some box flares for the fenders to be able to space the wheels out a bit in the front and to fit wider rubber in the back. Make a firewall to separate the motor from the driver and passenger. This will also help to stiffen up the body along with further bracing. Make a frunk floor.

Put large Wilwood disk brakes all the way around, with six piston calipers in the front and four piston rears. Find a way to conveniently route the cooling system's plumbing so that the radiator can be mounted in the factory location. Put a fuel cell where the gas tank normally goes in the trunk.

Put a pair of Mustang Recaro seats in it. Use the GT500's instruments to simplify the that process. Lizard skin and dynamat the fuck out of the interior. Use wool carpets for natural fire resistant properties. Give it a alcantara headliner. Use a wood steering wheel with a black-chrome three spoke pattern.

Finally, paint the whole thing flat Wimbledon White with glossy dark blue GT350 racing stripes.

I looked at a Mark rear suspension as a possibility for the Ranchero for a while.

I'm still thinking about it for the Pinto.

Not to really rain on your parade but front suspension tends to be very different than rear suspension. There are several things like anti squat and anti dive that make the geometry very different and if it's at the wrong end of the vehicle (not to mention backward) it will cause unpredictable handling. That's not to say you couldn't do it but it would probably handle like shit.

There is a reason why I said, "bad idea."

Just go twin engine like the old Mosler TwinStar. Note: It was also a bad idea, but awesome.

Are you implying that operating an IRS Lincoln in reverse full time will drive poorly? Hm.

Great, now I'm looking at crate suspensions and thinking about inappropriate places to put them.

Here's maybe a better idea. Use your Lincoln subframe there for the back, and use a front end out of something else. As long as you're getting all silly anyway, use something like a Fusion or Taurus front end, make some custom half-shafts so you can put "normal" diff in the middle. Use a GM awd transfer case and go. I thought long and hard about AWD options for my Bronco and still think it's a cool idea. An expensive, heavy and complicated cool idea.

FWD cars use transaxels.

Don't use the transaxle. Hang a diff in the center, and then connect the dots to the hubs with custom axles. Connect the diff to the transfer case, win. If you look at the subframe and suspension itself, with the engine and trans removed, you'll see it's suitable to your purpose.

One would be better off to just start from scratch at that point in time.

I say we encourage the Arch Duke to build this car, backwards suspension or not. I'd love to be at the side of the track watching him trying to handle that fucker! HA HA HA HA!

Honestly, if you're contemplating a mid-engine, awd Mustang, that's firmly in "start from scratch" territory. You're taking chunks of cars and making up everything in the middle. I am very sure it would be less work to adapt a fwd front end to a simple differential than it would be to get a rear suspension to work in the front. They're designed with different priorities.

As far as custom, have CNC will travel. Here's the Rally Fighter for a well executed use of billet and time.
